34 weeks 1 day!

I am 34 weeks 1 day pregnant today and our baby is about 5 lbs (weight of a cantaloupe) and 18+ inches long. I will actually be able to get a semi-accurate weight and length of baby at my next doctors appointment (36 weeks). They are planning on doing a growth ultrasound as well as a strep b test. I will get to see my little boy again!!! I can't wait.

This past weekend was graduation for seniors at the college I work at. I didn't have to go Saturday (outdoors) but I did have to go on Sunday (indoors). I made sure I ate breakfast, wore light clothing and brought my water bottle. My husband didn't want me to go but I told him it was for a couple of hours and that I would be fine. I was carpooling with some coworkers and we got there right on time that morning. I had a chance to eat again, drink some juice, fill up my water bottle and use the restroom. When we finally got in and sat down, I felt very squished against everyone (chairs were practically on top of each other). I don't know if it was the traditional robes I was wearing that was overheating me, dehydration, or claustrophobia (which I don't have) but I started to feel slightly nauseous. I started to fidget. The nausea didn't go away and I started to get really hot. My coworker next to me asked if I was ok, and I told her I was hot. She told me to unzip my robes. I did but it didn't help. As the commencement speaker talked, I started to get hotter and hotter. Sweat started to form on my brow and a prickly feeling went through my body. I knew at this point that all I wanted to do was to get very far away from the chair I was in. My coworker again asked if I was ok, saw that I was sheet white and said, lets get you out of here. We got up (speaker was still speaking) and we walked to the side of the arena. I was able to get a chair next to two security guards (who brought me water), strip off my robes and cool down. I sat there for a good 45 mins with my coworker, drinking water and watching the ceremony on the big screen that hung in the middle of the arena. We finally got up, went back to our seats in time to see the last section walk and the ceremony was done. Word to all: drink drink drink. I really do think I overheated and was slightly dehydrated. Never underestimate the heat of polyester black robes.

This coming weekend was suppose to be my baby shower. Due to my mom being in the hospital, we had decided to cancel the shower.  I will instead see family separately that day (my side and my husbands side). Because of no shower, my childhood best friend (who is 37 weeks!) decided to make a 3.5 hour trip up to see me with her mom and son. It was so great to see her and I got to give her a stuffed dragon that I had been working on. Her mom had bought our son a jumper swing for the doorway and a really cute lightup plush toy. My friend gave me an entire basket of an assortment of toys as well as a handmade baby blanket. It was such a nice surprise and we had such a great visit. Her son was adorable (age 22 months) and loved running around in our house, chasing the cat and opening/closing doors.

Symptoms: Besides the drama of Sunday, not much to report. I think he dropped because my belly seems lower though he flips a lot so who knows. I even had a home depot employee comment on my belly drop and that I looked about ready to pop any minute. I quickly argued with her that I have 6 weeks and that he shouldn't be on his way any time soon. I have been getting more heartburn and resorted to buying tums. The chest pain is gone (YEY!) but the exhaustion continues. We have our breast feeding class this coming Monday and that will be our last prenatal class till baby is here.

23 Weeks! Happy Leap Year!

Today I am 23 weeks pregnant and our baby is ~11.5 inches and just over a pound. He is the length of a scallion.

I have definitely felt more tired this week. Two nights ago, sleeping seemed impossible as both feet decided they would go numb. Not sure if it was due to swelling, or due to baby sitting on a nerve but I was tossing and turning, throwing pillows under my feet and between my legs. Nothing helped. I got up, walked around, did some foot exercises and rubbed cream on my feet. They finally woke back up and I was able to relax. Last night, Oliver, our cat decided that he was awake and wanted everyone else awake. He scratched on doors, ran up and down the stairs, cried. I threw pillows. Please do not think that when my child is crying that I will instinctually hurl pillows, socks, slippers or any other object close by at my son. Oliver is a special case and has been difficult since we got him. I thought he had settled down once we moved into the new house... apparently he was bored last night. I finally threw my last available pillow at him (I was not going to give up the body pillow) and he got the hint. He jumped up into bed and settled down.  This better not be a nightly ritual again.

We did purchase a humidifier for the bedroom. Not sure it its making a difference. We had it on a little too high last night and woke up with the floor soaked. We are debating on whether or not we are going to return it. Steve also was a wonderful husband this past weekend and installed a giant mirror in our bathroom. It has made getting ready in the morning much easier.

I have not had a chance to pick up my knitting as I have been swamped with teaching. I am giving my students an exam this week, of which I have to write 6 different copies. On top of getting next week prepped, I am super busy. We are suppose to get snow today and tomorrow... I'm hoping it won't be that bad. Where I work is going to get hardest with 6+inches predicted. We shall see.

Here is an updated belly shot. I have not measured the belly today. I did weigh myself and I am at just about 133lbs. ~17 weeks to go!

22 Weeks!

I am 22 weeks along today. Our little boy is roughly 11 inches (from head to toe), about the size of a papaya, and weighs about 1 lb.

Nothing too new to update. Our little ninja is very active. This week, my belly feels very stretched and I've been out of breath more. I've also gotten some random nose bleeds. Today we tried to take a walk down to the river and back. It was a bit further than I thought and I was exhausted by the time we got back. I have been having some Braxton Hicks. It happened twice but I drank a giant glass of water and the feeling went away.

I had my monthly doctors apt today. Everything went well and I had my first fecundity measurement (22 inches, right on target).

Over the weekend, I went to two consignment stores in the area. One called "Once upon a child" and the other "Kids at Heart". The first store was more for the baby (cloths, toys, etc.)  The second store was a bit more expensive but had maternity clothes. I  found and bought two pairs of maternity pants for work. I also stopped by Michaels and picked up some more yarn for a project (I have been teaching myself how to crochet as well as knit). It's very different than knitting but just as enjoyable. Once I get some more projects done, I will write another post just on them.

Knitting Project

As blogged in the post, "14 Weeks", I started a knitting project for baby. My goal was to knit him a lot of stuffed animals that he can play with. My first attempt was the duck you see to your left. I can't believe this was started when I was 14 weeks along! Now at almost 22 weeks, I am finally done. No, it didn't take 8 weeks to finish. I put the duck on the back burner when school started back up and of course when I went to see my sister.

I finally decided to finish the duck this weekend since I had some extra free time. There are no classes next week due to it being Presidents day, and I have many other knitting projects that I would like to get done before June.

My next stuff animal will be a stuffed puppy. I would also like to get a pattern and do a bunny for his room. I am pretty happy with how the duck came out but he will have to be hidden away. Oliver, our 5 year old cat has also fallen in love with the duck. He ran off with it this morning and then tonight, we left the duck on top of the flat screen TV (we thought out of reach of Oliver). While I was brushing my teeth and getting ready for bed, Steve heard a commotion downstairs. He said that it sounded like Oliver was playing with something. Then he (Oliver) came bounding up the stairs, and in his mouth was the duck. Thankfully Steve saved the duck and as for Oliver; he is pouting at the end of our bed.

14 Weeks!

Today I am 14 weeks! Baby is 3 1/2 inches (about the size of a lemon) and weighs 1.5 ounces. Baby can squint, frown, grimace, pee and suck his/her thumb!

We had a great  holiday and got lots of things for the the baby, including some really cute cloths. I even got a pair of maternity pants which I have been wearing. The running joke is that I have a "Buddha belly". Its tiny but it definitely has outgrown my pants.  Steve's mom got me some great maternity tops and crochet set. My mom got me knitting along with a book on how to knit stuffed animals. I am in the process of making baby a duck. It's not perfect and I definitely ended up having too many stitches at times but for my first attempt, it's not bad. I hope to finish the duck by the time I go and see my sister in AZ.

As far as symptoms, nothing new this week. Morning sickness only tends to hit when I am hungry and haven't eaten in 2 hours. Unfortunately I am still off meat/ spaghetti sauce/ anything with flavor. I have been still eating lots of fruit, milk, yogurt, granola etc. In other exciting news, we love our new vehicle (2001 Jeep Cherokee) and are still in the process of selling my car.

No plans for New Years. I bought Steve some nice cheese, spicy salami, crackers, chips and dip. I figured it will be a nice evening watching movies, eating and relaxing.
